Martial arts ranking is always somewhat controversial. Our main programs are Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and the Filipino Martial Arts. Our organization views ranking like college degrees: it is a record of time put in and signifies one was willing to complete certain requirements. Black belts and instructorships do not immediately solve all of the problems in one’s life, and black belts and instructorships are a lot of responsibility. That being written, the individuals below are instructors under Sifu/Guro/Doctor Bryan Stoops. *NOTE: At our school, we use the term “Sifu” the way South East Asians use “Guro”; it is a term that means “teacher”. That is not the protocol in Chinese Martial Arts, and we are not trying to be disrespectful. When we train with Sifu Francis Fong, he is the only “Sifu” on the floor, and the group calls Sifu/Guro Bryan Stoops “Bryan”. While ranking should have clear criteria, we strive to not take ourselves too seriously when it comes to rank.
Sifu/Guro Bernardo Salazar
Sifu/Guro Bernardo Salazar is Sifu/Guro/Doctor Bryan Stoops’ senior student. Bernardo is the first person to earn both a Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts Instructorship from Sifu/Guro Bryan. Bernardo is also the first person to compete both the Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts Phase Curriculums through Phase IV. Bernardo is also a certified Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts Instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto.
Guro/Dog Matthew Evans and Guro Heather Stark (front row, kneeling with Guro Ron Reekers between them)
Guro/Dog Matthew Evans and Guro Heather Stark are husband and wife. When martial arts brother Guro Joey Marana moved back to the East Coast, Heather and Matt continued training in the Filipino Martial Arts with Bryan. Matt and Heather are certified Filipino Martial Arts Instructors under Guro Bryan and under Guro Inosanto. Also, Matt has recently been fighting at Dog Brothers Gatherings for a some time now (even in Europe!) becoming the first student of Full Dog Brother Bryan “Guide Dog” Stoops to join the Tribe, and earn “Dog” level.
Sifu Robert Schroeder (Center, wearing solid black shirt)
Sifu Robert has earned a Jun Fun/Jeet Kune Do Instructorship from Sifu/Guro Bryan. Robert has been training with Bryan since classes began in 2011. Robert is also a Jun Fun/Jeet Kune Do Instructor under Sifu/Guro Dan Inosanto. Robert’s son Austin Schroeder has also earned a Jun Fun/Jeet Kune Do Instructorship from Sifu/Guro Bryan and Sifu Inosanto. While, Austin is currently inactive in Bryan’s organization (he is a busy young adult), he is always welcome in classes and seminars.
Sifu/Guro Maurice Myers
Sifu/Guro Maurice Myers is a recently certified instructor of Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts Instructor under Bryan. Maurice has been training with Bryan for over four years. Maurice is also a Student Instructor in Silat under Bryan. Maurice is a professional educator, and has trained with some of the finest martial artists in the world.
Sifu/Guro Howard Vitkus (kneeling, holding certificates)
Sifu/Guro Howard Vitkus is a recently certified instructor of Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Martial Arts under Bryan. Howard is also a Student Instructor in Silat under Bryan, and “Dog” Level in the Dog Brothers Tribe. Howard began supplementing his training with Bryan right away with seminars, workshops, and private lessons from some of the world’s finest martial arts teachers. Howard is hard at work developing his own training progression, the copy-written Condition/Drill/Spar System. Howard’s open-mindedness is an inspiration.
